Convent of Our Lady of Mercy

Period: Siglo XVII (1656)

Founded in 1656 by Don Juan de Austria, son of King Philip IV, when he served as prior of the Order of Saint John, the Convent of Our Lady of Mercy is one of Herencia's most emblematic buildings. Its church preserves a magnificent high altar retable presided over by the statue of the Virgin of Mercy, patron saint of the town. Every September, the town celebrates its annual fair and festivities in her honour. The convent complex, which includes the Merced House-Museum, offers a journey through the town's religious and artistic history.
