Church of the Immaculate Conception

Period: Siglo XVIII

The Church of the Immaculate Conception rises majestically over Plaza de España, the heart of Herencia. Built in the 18th century on the foundations of a 13th-century temple, it stands out for the warm reddish tone of its building materials. With a Latin cross floor plan and a single nave covered by a decorated barrel vault, it shelters valuable Baroque altarpieces, including the high altar featuring an image of the Immaculate Conception from 1819. Among its pictorial treasures are oil paintings of great value, including 'The Three Generations', attributed to Luca Giordano. Atop its tower, a statue of the Sacred Heart marks the unmistakable skyline of Herencia.
